It was a bit of a slog today at the plot but, it was worth the effort:)
The main task was the removal of the lemon balm in the herb garden at the café end of the plot. It had spread and was taking over the herb garden so, it was thought the best course of action was to remove it completely. Suffice to say, that turned out to be a bit of a mission! Not least because of the accumulation of litter that had been hidden in the growth for some time:( There is more tidying up work that needs to be done in that area but despite this, we feel that we’ve made good progress, as you can hopefully see from the images above.
Then there was cropping. The biggest part of which was the courgettes, some of which have turned into marrows because things had been ‘left for a few days’! Never turn your back on a courgette because you don’t know where it will end, trust me on that one… Keeping to the spirit of this being a community plot and also due to the fact we already have more than enough chopped up courgettes in the freezer at home, the pickings from today were donated to passers by, with one kept aside to be given to a supporter tomorrow – Sunday 2.8. Some of the fruit we picked was also donated.
After this, as rain has become a distant memory, there was the inevitable watering that had to be done. Between the volunteers working on the plot, we have the watering pretty much covered at the moment. Having said this, some decent, steady rain really would be appreciated…
The next official work session at the plot is scheduled for Wednesday 19.8, starting at 2pm. If any of you can make it along to that, you’ll be warmly welcomed. As this is a fair way off, the odds are that there probably will be a few ‘unofficial’ work sessions before then if it’s deemed something needs doing and it can’t wait. Also, those courgettes need watching…
