It was a useful working session today:)
The first one of the autumn…
The gooseberry bushes were given a trim as was the thornless blackberry.
The broad beans at the end of the plot were cut back down to the ground – sadly, they weren’t a success unlike the ones that were over-wintered.
The spinach was tidied up.
The courgettes were also tidied up with a few more being picked. There are still flowers so hopefully, there’s more to come with this one. It has been one of our successes this year:)
The hedge along the back path was trimmed. Even though it was given a severe cutback back in the summer, it’s still sending out shoots that could impede walking along the path so, out they came!
The area around the herb garden was weeded and tidied up. As it’s right by the entrance, it’s one of the first impressions people get of the plot so although this is just aesthetics, it’s also important.
As I was taking the photos for this report, a couple of people involved in a pollinator and fruit tree planting project stopped by for an interesting chat about what we do and what they do – Saltford Environment Group https://www.saltfordenvironmentgroup.org.uk/gardening.html – It’s exchanges like this that make what we do worthwhile:)
The next official working session at the plot is on Wednesday 16th September, starting at 2pm. If anything needs doing before then that warrants an additional work party, we’ll announce it here.
